International Mindset

  • Class Overview

  • In this course, students are asked to “Think, Read & Write” through an international angle. We focus students on thinking, discussing, analyzing and writing about current global events which are controversial, thought provoking or challenging. The course will prepare students to have a broader international mindset, be critical thinkers and articulate speakers and writers. The International Mindset prepares students to tackle competing issues and develop succinct arguments within limited time frames.

    Each class will focus on:

    • Reading on a current event/issue which is thought provoking, controversial or progressive, with a focus on:
      • Exposure to a Broad Variety of World Events/Topics
      • Comprehension and Grasp
      • Group Discussion and Debate
      • Strategic Analysis (including interpretation, data analysis, concepts etc)

    • Developing superior articulation skills, with a strong emphasis on and exposure to:
      • Debating Issues
      • Raising Alternative Perspectives
      • Conducting Comprehensive Research of Issues
      • Questioning and Probing – Facts vs Fiction
      • Logical Reasoning and Succinct Structuring of Viewpoints

    • In Class Assignments, including exercises on:
      • Reading and Comprehension
      • Issue Analysis and Probing
      • Clear Structuring of Arguments
      • Eloquent Oral Presentations
      • Persuasive Written Presentations
