  • Class Overview

  • This course is dedicated to mastering techniques, honing writing skills and practicing past papers for the IGCSE English examinations. Students will be taught analytical skills, comprehension proficiency, literary terms, writing styles, organisational techniques plus superior vocabulary application and usage specifically suited to IGCSE English.

    Guidance documents on how to tackle answering questions for Passage A and Passage B will be given to each student. Additional guidance specific to Literary Terms/Tropes and IGCSE Letter Writing will also be supplied.

    Students will be provided with immediate feedback at the end of each session, inclusive of Let’s Learn comprehensive and recommended answers to IGCSE past papers. Our aim is for students to achieve high IGCSE English scores. The skills taught will underpin students’ success in sitting for the IGCSE English exam.

    Each class will focus on:

    • Practicing an actual past IGCSE paper, with a focus on:
      • Comprehension and Grasp – both Passages A & B
      • Vocabulary Development and Explanation
      • Strategic Analysis (including interpretation, literary terms/tropes, focal points etc)

    • Developing superior composition skills, specific to:
      • Various Styles of Writing (descriptive, narrative, opinion, expository/factual writing – for Passage A questions requiring newspaper reporting, magazine articles, letters of complaint etc and Passage B retelling and paraphrasing)
      • Flow and Cohesion (transitional phrases/words etc)
      • Innovative Figures of Speech (similes, metaphors, personification, imagery etc)
      • Advanced and Descriptive Vocabulary

    • Fostering of analytical and organisational capability:
      • Logical Reasoning
      • Interpretation and Judgment
      • Concepts and Ideas

    • In Class Assignments, including exercises on past papers:
      • Passage Reading and Comprehension
      • Various Writing Tasks and Styles – for Passage A Question 1
      • Selection of the most effective and powerful words and phrases from Passage A to tackle Question 2
      • Discovering the points within Passage B necessary for answering Question 3 Part (a)
      • Retelling and paraphrasing techniques and word selection for Question 3 Part (b)
      • Proof Reading
      • Error Corrections
      • Sample Answers prepared by Let’s Learn provided to students

    Class Time: 90 minutes
