Intermediate English

  • Class Overview

  • Intermediate English is a series of unique workshops designed to inspire young students in the areas of English comprehension, essay composition, story writing, précis, poetry and blogs. Interesting and exciting literary topics will be introduced at the beginning of each lesson and students will be asked to create their own unique bespoke written response.

    This course focuses on:

    • Close Reading (stories and passages), with guidance on:
      • Literacy
      • Comprehension and Grasp
      • Strategic Analysis (including contextual clues)

    • Developing basic composition skills, with a strong emphasis on:
      • Part of Speech (adverbs, nouns, adjectives, articles etc)
      • Figures of Speech (similes, metaphors, personification etc)
      • Descriptive Vocabulary
      • Grammar and Tenses
      • Punctuation
      • Syntax usage (elements of sentence structure, ordering of words for logical sentences etc)

    • Fundamentals of composing, with teaching:
      • Organisational Capability
      • Logical Reasoning
      • Narration
      • Story Flow and Cohesion (transitional phrases/words etc)

    • In Class Assignments, including exercises on:
      • Passage Reading and Comprehension
      • Vocabulary Development
      • Grammar Application
      • Sentence Structuring
      • Writing Tasks and Styles (descriptive, narrative, opinion, expository/factual writing etc)
      • Crossword and Word Search Puzzles

    Small classes are taught by exemplary teachers with impeccable English skills. Classes are always focused on having fun while learning and developing creative writing skills. Individual feedback will be promptly provided to enhance and maximise each young student’s English learning experience.
